CNN:GOP obstruction of Obamacare is closing hospitals
CNN:GOP obstruction of Obamacare is closing hospitals
In Georgia, as many as 15 more rural hospitals may close “within months” and in Tennessee, which is putting off a decision on expanding Medicaid, almost half of the 61 rural hospitals in the state might face “major cuts or closure.” This is a direct — and disastrous — consequence of Republicans’ ideological opposition to Obamacare.
There are a bunch of problems with the article, notably that rural hospitals have been closing for years before Obamacare so this might be not that related. But its worth a read.
444 million for a hockey arena, no money for pensions?
444 million for a hockey arena, no money for pensions?
So when the politicians running Michigan’s state government claim there are no resources that could shore up the pension plan, that’s just not true. What is true is that there’s plenty of money for the state and city to meet the pension promises they made to public employees – but politicians in charge of spending want that money to go to corporations that disproportionately fund politicians’ election campaigns. To insist otherwise – to do what Orr is doing and pretend there’s no money around – is just shockingly dishonest.

Without Reagan’s Treason, Iran Would Not Be a Problem
Behind Carter’s back, the Reagan campaign worked out a deal with the leader of Iran’s radical faction – Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini – to keep the hostages in captivity until after the 1980 Presidential election. This was nothing short of treason.

Geeks for Monarchy: The Rise of the Neoreactionaries
Neoreactionaries believe that while technology and capitalism have advanced humanity over the past couple centuries, democracy has actually done more harm than good. They propose a return to old-fashioned gender roles, social order and monarchy.
I always wondered when libertarians would just drop the BS and just admit they want corporate feudalism.

Most of NSA’s data collection authorized by order Ronald Reagan issued
“In 1996, when (12333) was 15 years old, we said, ‘Gee, this probably ought to be revised.’ Now we’re more than 15 years after that,” said John Bellinger, a former legal adviser to the National Security Council during the presidency of George W. Bush. Still, the order hasn’t undergone any major change, “in part, because it’s so difficult and complex to change it,” he said.
If only a congressional law professor were able to talk to the president about executive orders.
No Evidence That The Bulk Collection of Americans’ Phone Records Has Provided Any Intelligence of Value That Could Not Have Been Gathered Through Less Intrusive Means
Mass spying by the NSA has never stopped a single terrorist attack. Mass surveillance actually interferes with our ability to stop terrorism.
The NSA story keeps getting worse.

More Than 3,200 Serving Life Without Parole for Nonviolent Offenses
Of the 3,278 prisoners, 79 percent were convicted of nonviolent, drug-related crimes such as possession or distribution, and 20 percent of nonviolent property crimes like theft.
Its mostly red-states locking blacks up for life for minor crimes. No surprise here.
House Republicans Skip Obamacare Briefing They Furiously Demanded
House Republicans Skip Obamacare Briefing They Furiously Demanded
most of the House Republicans who had demanded their own closed-door briefing from the administration on President Barack Obama’s struggling health care rollout were no-shows on Wednesday.
This is what is wrong with congress in one simple headline. There is far more interest in outrage than due diligence. You would think that they would want to actually do their jobs, or simply to sit in the briefing and then attack the parts of Obamacare they hate. But no. They just want to yell and scream and don’t care if they get any facts right.
