The upside for the Republican Party is that Karl Rove has had an excellent short term political strategy over the last six years. The downside is that it is a terrible long term strategy. I hope they enjoyed their “permanent majority” while it lasted.

A really nice commentary that was nearly ruined by a Goering reference. Rove may be amoral; but lets not get carried away. His biggest crime is merging the White House policy apparatus with the political arm. The result of doing nothing unless it could be justified to the base was a popularity of 30-something percent. Roughly the size of the base. Getting him out of the Policy business can only help the administration, at least in the short term.
