The idea that the GOP has lost touch with reality and is focused on non-issues isn’t a new idea. Ten years ago, Jon Stewart faced Bill O’Reilly and coined the term “Bullshit Mountain” for what is now sometimes called the Fox Cinematic Universe. Every moment of this debate feels current because the fundamental problem of a portion of our nation living in an alternate reality has not changed in the past decade.
